Endoscopy Center

What to Expect In The Endoscopy Center

The physicians of Gastroenterology Specialists are pleased to be able to perform procedures and examinations in our Endoscopy Center. Our Endoscopy Center is licensed by the State of Ohio and is certified by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services. The Endoscopy Center has received further accreditation by the American Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

As a commitment to our continued excellence, the Endoscopy Center staff is comprised of Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurses by the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology Nurses, Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.

Reception

Reception is where we receive all of our patients. Your information will be verified by our staff and you will be checked in for your procedure. Your friends and family may relax here during your procedure. You are required to bring a responsible adult driver as you will be unable to drive after the procedure. It is preferred that your driver remain in the facility while you are having your procedure, but if they leave, we ask that they notify the receptionist. You will be in our facility for approximately 60-90 minutes.

Pre-procedure

Upon entering our Endoscopy Center, you will be led to the pre-procedure area. The nursing staff will review your medical history and obtain important information in regards to your preparation for the examination.

Your questions and concerns will be addressed and answered.

Please bring your glasses with you as you will need to sign consents for the procedure and anesthesia. We do ask however that all other valuables be left at home. Your personal items will remain with you during your stay with us.

Procedure Room

Our procedure rooms feature state-of –the-art equipment, including HD (high definition) colonoscope technology and all the amenities necessary for successful procedures. While in the procedure room, you will be constantly monitored and cared for by the procedure room team under the direction of your physician.

Post-procedure

You will be monitored in the recovery area after your procedure is complete. Our nursing staff will try to alleviate any discomfort you may feel. Your friends or family will be escorted to be with you during this time. Your physician will meet with you prior to discharge to discuss the immediate findings of your examination. Due to the sedation you received, you may not remember the information your physician discusses with you clearly. We encourage you to have someone available to be with you at this time.

Infection Control

As part of our ongoing practice of Infection Prevention, our staff performs all actions in accordance with state and national infection control regulations and standards. All the Center’s equipment is clean, disinfected, and sterilized in accordance to guidelines stipulated by the equipment manufacturer, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Association of Professionals of Infection Control (APIC), and Society for Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA)
